Letter of the Week: Jj
An Encouraging Word from Scripture……Be exalted, O God, above the heavens; let your glory be over all the earth. Psalm 108:5 (NIV)
What is stuffed with straw, wears old clothes and is very scary to certain black birds? A scarecrow, of course! We are going to give special recognition this week to these great friends who help out farmers everywhere! As we focus on crows, corn and scarecrows this week, we will learn a lot. We will practice our counting by playing a game where we count buttons onto a scarecrow’s shirt. Each class will be making a scarecrow for one of their art projects this week.
We will be taking “crows” (black beans) out of the corn using tweezers. This activity will help our fine motor skills. Our stories and songs will be corny and scarecrowy this week as well. If time permits, we will be playing a parachute game in which we try to “scare” the crows off of the parachute. This is a very fun game! We will also be adding in some other fun fall activities as well.
Our featured letter this week is Jj. There will be some fun activities to go along with this special letter, too. Scarecrow week is a favorite at SonShine and we look forward to this week of Fall fun!
Monday and Tuesday: Carrots with Ranch Dressing and Milk
Wednesday and Thursday: Corn Tortilla Chips and Salsa

SCHOLASTIC BOOK ORDER
The November book flyers went home last week. If you would like to order books, please either order online or fill out and return the paper copy(ies) with a check made out to “Scholastic Reading Club” no later than this Friday, November 15. Scholastic does not accept cash, so please pay for your book order with check or money order if bringing in the paper forms.
Just a reminder that November tuition is past due. Thanks to everyone who has already paid! If you have not yet paid, please add the $10 late fee.
- Tuition is due on the first day of the month. It is late after the 5th. A $10 late fee is charged after the 5th.
- We have noticed that there have been several payments turned in after the 5th without the late fee being added. Please add the late fee even if it is just one day late. Thanks!
- If you pay with cash, please make sure to enclose the payment in an envelope with your child’s name and the date paid written on the envelope.
STORY TIME AT PAOLA FREE LIBRARY
SonShine preschoolers will be walking to the Paola Free Library on Monday, November 18 and Thursday, November 21 for a Thanksgiving story time. Parents and younger siblings are welcome to attend story time with us. We kindly ask if you bring younger siblings that you have them sit on your lap or next to you. Thanks so much!
Please sign the form in the classroom if you give permission for your child to walk to the library with us! Thanks!
Each week, there is a homework page attached to your child's newsletter. While it is not required to complete and turn it in, it is a good thing to do at home to reinforce basic skills. We are noticing that a lot of kiddos are bringing their homework pages in each week for a sticker. We are really impressed at how well they are doing on those pages and we thank you parents for taking the time to work on this with them!
PLEASE PRACTICE AT HOME
The kids have been working at preschool to learn how to recognize and write their names. Please practice writing your child's name at home as well. At preschool, we prefer that they only capitalize the first letter and write the remainder of their name using lowercase letters. Thank you so much for your help with this. We can tell that some of the kiddos already do practice at home. Keep up the good work!
SINGING AT FIRST LUTHERAN CHURCH
This Sunday, November 17, the SonShine Preschoolers have been invited to sing at the 10:30 worship service. Thank you to everyone who has turned in the form letting us know whether or not you will be attending. They have been working very hard on learning the songs and are looking forward to praising God with their voices. All of the information went home last week.
INCLEMENT WEATHER POLICY
We start thinking about winter weather this time of year (even though we don't want to!). SonShine Preschool follows USD #368 (Paola Schools) weather closing schedule. If USD #368 is closed for bad weather, SonShine will be closed as well. The local television and radio stations will have the most current closing information. You won’t specifically see SonShine listed, but USD #368 will be listed and since we follow their closing schedule that is what you will want to look for.
