Worship Styles

The following are comments that we've all heard about worship services over the years:
  • It starts too early.  It starts too late.
  • I don’t like the hymns.  I like the hymns.
  • I like to sing old songs.  I like to sing new songs.
  • I like the traditional liturgy.  I don’t like the liturgy.

With this in mind, we offer two different services to provide more options for personal schedules, and individual tastes in music and worship style.

8:00 am - Traditional Worship
This service offers traditional liturgies & utilizes organ music. The service format is provided on the screens in the Sanctuary and a large-print bulletin.  Assistive hearing devices are available in the A/V booth in the back of the Sanctuary.

10:30 am - Contemporary Worship
This service offers a relaxed environment that uses a blend of liturgies and free worship exercises.  The music is provided by a worship band and the service is on the screens in the Sanctuary and a large-print bulletin.  This service also offers a Kids Ministry, a fun and relevant teaching time for children ages 3 - grade 3 during the message.  Assistive hearing devices are available in the A/V booth in the back of the Sanctuary

Holy Communion at First
Worship at First Lutheran includes a celebration of Holy Communion twice a month, typically the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month.  We believe Holy Communion is a special gift of God for our benefit.  As a commitment to biblical integrity, communion is reserved for:
  • Baptized Christians (Acts 2:37-38)
  • those who recognize and confess their sins (Proverbs 28:13, 1 John 1:8)
  • those who believe the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ is offered under forms of bread and wine (1 Corinthians 10:16, 11:27)
  • those who accept Jesus' words: "given and shed for you for the forgiveness of sins" (Matthew 26:28)

All who share these biblical beliefs are encouraged to join with us and participate in Communion at First Lutheran.  For those who have questions regarding these beliefs and practices, a Communion Class is held each quarter.  Please contact Pastor if you would like to attend or have questions (office@firstlutheran-paola.org).

White grape juice is available on the communion tray for those with special needs.

Children who have not been confirmed in the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod should speak with Pastor before taking communion.
