Letter of the Week: Aa
An Encouraging Word From Scripture……Clap your hands, all you nations; shout to God with cries of joy. How awesome is the Lord Most High, the great King over all the earth! Psalm 47:1-2
Apples, Apples, Apples!
As you can probably tell from our theme title, we will be learning about apples this week! This time of year, we start thinking about picking apples and apple pies baking on a cool fall day. The weather has been showing us some hints of fall!
It just so happens that “apple” also begins with the letter “Aa” which will be our featured letter this week! We will be singing apple songs, eating apple snacks and doing apple art projects. On Wednesday and Thursday, we will be matching clothespin number “worms” with a corresponding number set.
Another very important skill we will be practicing this week is learning how much glue is appropriate for certain art situations. It has been our experience that often times our glue bottles release rivers and oceans of glue! So, we will be learning a song about “a little dot of glue will do”. At the beginning of the preschool year, this is a song that runs through our heads often, especially when we are trying to sleep. Anyway, it is a good concept to learn and remember! 😊
Please ask your kids what they are learning this week! Be sure to have them practice recognizing and saying the sound for “Aa” at home, at the store, at soccer or wherever else this week finds you!
SNACKS
Monday: Applesauce and Milk
Tuesday: Applesauce and Milk and Lainey’s Birthday Treats
Wednesday and Thursday: Apple Slices and Milk
Friday: Wheat Crackers and Fruit Juice
SCHOLASTIC BOOK ORDER
The September books have been ordered. We look for them to arrive toward the end of this week or early next week. We will send those home in backpacks as soon as they arrive.
SEPTEMBER TUITION
September tuition is past due. Thanks to everyone who has already paid. If you have not yet paid, please do so this week. If paying by check, please make the check payable to First Lutheran Church with a notation in the memo line that it is for SonShine tuition. If utilizing the ACH option, please choose for your payment to come out on the 1st of the month. Thanks!
It is not too late to enroll for the ACH (direct deposit) option for October – May. If you would like to utilize this convenient payment method, please see Ms. Kris for the ACH form.
Note: Monthly tuition for 2 -day classes is $95. Monthly tuition for 3-day classes is $120.
CHAPEL TALK
Chapel time will begin on September 28 and 29. Typically, Chapel will be on Tuesday and Wednesday. We will be going into the First Lutheran Church sanctuary for this very special time. Pastor Schultz, Angel Gillespie, our Director of Christian Education or Jody Brown will be leading chapel time this preschool year. Most of you have signed the permission form for your child to go into the church sanctuary. If you have misplaced the form, please let Mrs. Kris know and she will get you another.
We will ask all of the kids to wear a mask while attending Chapel Talk. If your child normally does not wear a mask to preschool, we will provide a disposable mask for him/her to wear for that 15 to 20 minute Chapel time frame due to sitting in closer proximity than in the classroom.
PRESCHOOL T-SHIRTS
If you would like to order a preschool T-shirt for your kiddo, it is NOT too late! The cost is $8.00. Let Ms. Kris know if you would like one.
HOMEWORK
Each week, on Monday and Tuesday, a homework page is sent home in your child’s folder. While it is not mandatory for your child to complete this, it is a good way to practice some skills that we are working on at preschool.
APPROPRIATE SHOES FOR PRESCHOOL
Please have your child wear sneakers or another pair of closed-toe shoes on preschool days. The wood chips on the playground have a sneaky way of getting into sandals and flip flops and hurting little feet. Closed toe shoes with rubber soles are the safest choice for the playground at preschool. Thank you!
ALLERGY AWARENESS
When sending in treats for birthday celebrations or holiday parties, please do not send anything that contains peanuts or peanut butter. Many kids with peanut allergies cannot even be around peanuts and peanut butter and can have a severe reaction simply by smelling them. Thank you so much for your understanding and cooperation.
MASK REMINDER
If you want your kiddo to wear a mask throughout the preschool day, please send him/her to preschool with a mask on his/her face. Thank you!
PICTURE DAYS AT SONSHINE
NEXT WEEK, on Wednesday and Thursday, September 22 and 23, Cheyenne Cooper, a local photographer with Infinite Image Photography will be at SonShine taking individual portraits of the children. She will also take a class photo. We will do pictures early in the day so hopefully hair will stay intact and clothes clean for when your child has his/her picture taken. J

March 19, 2020
Dear SonShine Parents,
In response to the current COVID 19 outbreak in this country and in order to exercise prudence, classes at SonShine Preschool will be suspended until April 6, 2020. The SonShine Preschool Board and Director will be monitoring the situation in the next couple weeks. If it is prudent at that time to reopen, classes will resume. If it is determined that more time is needed to ensure the health and safety of our students, families and staff, we will let you know at that time.
Tuition payments will be adjusted to reflect when preschool is not in session and you will receive more details on this as soon as they are finalized.
We are saddened to have to close at this time, but feel it is in the best interest of our students, families and staff. We pray that this situation will soon be resolved and life can somewhat return to normal.
We know that God is totally in charge of this situation and we continue to be in prayer over this. Please be encouraged by the following words from Psalm 27 during this time of uncertainty.
The Lord is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life—of whom shall I be afraid? Psalm 27:1 (NIV)
I am confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord. Psalm 27:13-14 (NIV)
Blessings,
SonShine Preschool Board
